UCSD Media Lab / All About Production

Welcome to the UCSD Media Lab Tumblr page!
The Media Lab's Mission is dedicated to providing outstanding facilities, equipment, and technical assistance to UC San Diego undergraduate students enrolled in official media production classes, and graduate students using media in their research.

We are a teaching facility and home to over 800 media students in varying disciplines who attend our educational workshops in camera training, production software education and post-production media management, as well as audio production and all phases of studio filmmaking practices.

The Media Lab's aim is to facilitate students in making the highest quality videos and films, with excellent sound, editing, and cinematography.

ENTER YOUR FILM STUDENTS!

Thin Line Film Fest is an international documentary film festival held in Denton, Texas - just north of Dallas / Fort Worth. The 6th Annual festival is February 8-18, 2013. For eleven days we screen a diverse program of high quality, relevant documentary films culled from hundreds of submissions. Some films will come straight from their debut at Sundance. Others will have screened everywhere but here; and yet some will be brand new stories from unkown filmmakers.

At Thin Line we also explore the full depth of the documentary genre, encourgaing filmmakers to experiment with hybrid forms of the documentary such as docufictions, mockumentaries, docudramas, animated docs, and any combination thereof. With the risk of blowing your mind… every year we try to program at least one fake documentary; and we won’t tell you which one. The question you should be asking yourself during your Thin Line experience is, “What is real?” There truly is a thin line between fact and fiction!

“Mission 26″ as it was dubbed because of the spacecraft’s 25 flight missions for NASA started just before midnight Thursday and finished Sunday afternoon, more than 16 hours late.

Its final journey was slowed by unexpected maintenance issues and last-minute maneuvers to avoid obstacles like trees and utility poles. The 85-ton orbiter survived the trip with nary a scratch.

This thing is pretty revolutionary!

Spike is crazy-fast moving robot that moves a camera as it shoots high-speed video (normally, the camera would have to be locked in place).

That means the robot’s movements are as fast as a shutter!
